About us

Moon Pads is a Tasmanian business that makes colourful, comfortable cloth menstrual pads. We also sell two types of fantastic menstrual cups: Keepers and Lunettes. Our stock changes regularly, so there's always something new.

We think cloth pads and menstrual cups just make sense

From a logical standpoint, reusable menstrual products allow you to save a packet, limit your exposure to some pretty serious chemicals and do your bit to make the world a better place. From an emotional standpoint, Moon Pads™ are funky and colourful and cheer up a potentially un-fun time of the month. Some of our customers report an almost giddy glee when they bypass 'that aisle' at the supermarket.

There's a bit of science and a lot of personal experience behind Moon Pads

Moon Pads were created by Pip Buchanan, a trained nurse and one of the many women who have suffered the severe discomfort and potential dangers of Toxic Shock Syndrome. She developed Moon Pads as a natural and comfortable alternative to existing disposable products. You might even have spoken to Pip at Hobart's world-renowned Salamanca Markets. The pads have evolved over the past 12 years as customers provided feedback. We're currently investigating including sustainably harvested renewable fabrics made from bamboo and hemp, but for now we're sticking with the tried-and-true all natural-fibre cotton pads.

Here's a picture of us so you can see who you're dealing with

Bruce and Suzanne took over Moon Pads from Pip in 2010.

Not wanting to talk about themselves in the third-person, they decided to switch to first-person.

We’re keen for as many women as possible to enjoy using washable, reusable Moon Pads or menstrual cups; saving money and eliminating plastic waste. Our pads are not just an awesome product, they’re also bright and beautiful.

Periods are a natural part of life – not a medical emergency

We both have science degrees and tend to take an analytical standpoint on the whole menstruation business. Here's what we reckon: when you get your period your body is doing what it's supposed to do; there's nothing dirty or shameful about it. Of course the more alienated you are from your body the more plastic-wrapped, 'sanitary' chemical cocktails the commercial pad and tampon manufacturers can sell to you.

Curious? Cautious? Don't be – you've got nothing to lose. Thousands of funky padsters can't be wrong!

Cloth-curious? Why not buy a Moon Pad to try? Or if cups are more your thing, The Keeper comes with a three-month money-back guarantee. We want your choice to be a low-risk one.

Thousands of women use Moon Pads – join their ranks and spend the money you save each month on something fabulous.

We love supporting other people to live more sustainably

Your choice to use cloth or cups will make a significant difference to the environment. We're so pleased to help you to make this change. Let us know if you have anything you'd like to share about your experiences or about our products.

Thanks so much for supporting our Tasmanian-owned and operated business.
